Sunday School

Court Street United Methodist Church is happy to offer fun, educational Sunday school classes throughout the school year.  Our classes are multi-aged and always reflect the current interests of the children we serve.  Children of all ages are encouraged to attend each Sunday from 10:00AM- 10:50 AM.  We offer flexible grouping and often have two or more levels of learning going on during our lessons.  The curriculum is Bible-based and is approved by our Education Director.
Some of our recent Sunday school lessons have included the ever-changing maps of the Holy Land, “bullies in the Bible”, stories from the Old Testament, the United Methodist church calendar, stories from the New Testament, and soldiers of the Bible.  As Christmas approaches, we write, edit and prepare our church’s Christmas play.

Court Street Education Director holds her master’s degree in elementary education administration and has 23 years of teaching experience in grades K, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. In addition, she has served as a gifted teaching specialist for 4 years, teaching grades 2- through 6.  This depth and breadth of experience allows us to create an effective and exciting program that addresses the needs of children from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Come and visit us!  We always have room for your child!

Children’s Moment

All members, including children, attend the first part of the church service.  This allows the children to gain an understanding of the structure of a church service and increases their comfort level in such a setting.   It gives them the experience of adult worship, without staying for the entire service.  Shortly into the service, Court Street offers a “Children’s Moment”--a five-minute lesson taught during the church service.  At the conclusion of this mini-lesson, the children are dismissed for Junior Church.

Junior Church

Junior church is designed for school-aged children, in grades K- 5.  Often, the junior church lessons align with the sermon given to the adults.  Junior church is a great place for younger children to hear, learn, and question the stories in the Bible.  This service is designed to help build the faith of our most important members-to-be, our children.  It is our goal to have the children develop their own understanding of faith though appropriate stories, puppetry, skits, and other activities that will fully engage the children.  Junior church is a year-round offering.
